Application Tips: Create a Housing Options List

Be Prepared With Several Options

All upperclass on-Grounds housing areas are located close to classes, dining halls, University Transit Service stops, and more. Combine that with the ability to live with friends in a UVA-based community, and you can see how all upperclass on-Grounds housing areas can work for you!

You may know exactly where you'd like to live on Grounds in 2023-2024. Or you may not be sure which housing area you think might be the best fit for you.

In both situations, it's a good idea to create a housing options list.

Creating a List

When the room selection phase of the housing application takes place in late January and February, there's always the chance that your preferred housing area may be full.

You can be prepared by having several housing area choices ready.

Having a housing options list will help the room selection phase of the application process go smoothly, and the Returning Undergraduates section of the housing website has detailed information about housing areas that can help you create your list.

Have You Considered

As you look at on-Grounds areas and create your housing options list, have you considered Johnson, Malone, and Weedon (JMW) or UVA's residential colleges: Brown College, Hereford College, and the International Residential College?

Each of these areas offer rooms in great locations on Grounds. And choosing residential colleges will be an option during the room selection phase of the housing application. The process to select a residential college room will be the same as selecting other upperclass housing.
