Supporting Students, Engaging Leaders
We pride ourselves on maintaining a residential program firmly rooted in the spirit of student self-governance. To this end, Housing & Residence Life (HRL) recruits and selects upwards of 240 students each year to serve as peer leaders who are in turn a means of support for their fellow students.
Resident Staff members work closely with a group of dedicated HRL professionals to establish residence halls and apartments as welcoming, secure living areas that represent and promote the high standards of achievement and conduct expected of students at the University of Virginia.
Furthermore, students are immediately given the opportunity to lead within their residential community as first years through the Residential Leadership Experience. Students living on-Grounds are elected to represent their class as a member of the First Year Council or their residence hall in their respective Association Council.
Programs and events sponsored by HRL staff and communities are intended to engage and inform, always in pursuit of our overarching goal to create welcoming communities.
