Gibbons House
Gibbons House is home to Housing & Residence Life and Conferences@UVA.
Located at 425 Tree House Drive in the Alderman Road Residence Area, Gibbons House opened in 2015 and is named for William and Isabella Gibbons. Husband and wife, William and Isabella were enslaved by different professors and lived in different pavilions at the University of Virginia in the mid-nineteenth century. Once emancipated, Isabella became a teacher at the Freedman’s School – now the Jefferson School – and William became a minister at Charlottesville’s oldest Black church, First Baptist.
As the center of the Resident Staff program, the Gibbons House offices are a daily hub of student and staff activity. Our team is eager to help you throughout your journey at the University of Virginia!
