Residents moving out on Sunday, May 16 should be aware that Final Exercises for the Class of 2020 (postponed from last year due to the pandemic) will be held as two ceremonies on May 16 from approximately 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. There will be increased traffic on Grounds and throughout the Charlottesville area, with road closures in the morning and afternoon to accommodate Final Exercises processions. Closures will affect the Alderman Road and McCormick Road Residential Areas and Brown Residential College.
Residents leaving on Sunday may want to consider vacating on-Grounds housing between 10:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. or after 3:00 p.m. to avoid the Final Exercise processions and associated traffic.
Road Closures
The following road closures will be in place for Final Exercises processions from approximately 8:30-10:30 a.m., and then again from 1:00-3:00 p.m.:
- McCormick Road between University Avenue and Engineer’s Way.
- University Avenue between Rugby Road and Madison Lane.
- Whitehead Road from Rice Hall to Stadium Road.
- Stadium Road from Whitehead Road to the Stadium Garage entrance.
- Access to parking lots and side streets from each of these roads will not be possible during the road closures.
Please note that the actual road closure times may be longer, depending on the movement of the processions.
