Shelter-in-Place Locations

When Should I Shelter-in-Place?

During a tornado or other severe weather, residents will be instructed to shelter-in-place. This means you will take shelter in designated locations within the building rather than evacuating.

After moving to the designated location, remain close to the ground until the shelter-in-place warning is cleared.

  • Balz-Dobie, Gibbons, Kellogg, Lile-Maupin, Shannon, Tuttle-Dunnington, Watson-Webb, and Woody

  • Cauthen
Residents should move quickly to the first floor of Cauthen. Close all doors and shelter in the computer lab, hallways, bathrooms, or laundry room (all of these are rooms without windows).

Residents should shelter in the bathrooms within their suites, with the bathroom doors closed.

Bice House

Remain away from windows and do not use the elevators.

  • If it is safe, residents should move to the basement using the internal stairwells. Residents should close all apartment doors.

  • If residents are unable to get to the basement level, they should navigate to the lowest floor possible using the stairs. Avoid the first floor due to the large amount of glass on that level.

  • Residents can also shelter in the stairwells.
