COVID-19 Addendum to the Graduate & Faculty/Staff Terms and Conditions of Housing

This document is a legally binding addendum to the Graduate & Faculty/Staff Terms and Conditions of Housing (“housing contract”) for 2020-2021 ("Addendum"). By accepting this Addendum, you agree to and accept all terms and conditions included within the Addendum. To the extent that there are any conflicts between the provisions of the housing contract and the provisions of this Addendum, the provisions in this Addendum shall supersede the conflicting provisions in the housing contract.

The University reserves its right to make changes to the policies governing University housing to ensure the safety and health of the community. All University housing residents must also adhere to expectations, policies, and rules instituted by the University.

All sections of this document and any policies referenced by it are considered formal requirements and part of Housing & Residence Life policies for the 2020- 2021 academic year. Failure to adhere to these requirements may result in immediate removal from University housing, Interim Suspension, and/or disciplinary proceedings. Removal from University housing based on such failure does not release you from the financial obligations owed to Housing & Residence Life for 2020-2021 housing.

COVID-19 Policy: Based on guidelines from federal, state, and local governments and health agencies, the University has developed the COVID-19 policy for on-Grounds residents to reduce the spread of COVID-19. All persons living on Grounds are required to comply with this policy.

University-Initiated Termination

Before move-in: Due to COVID-19, it is possible that the University will not be able to accommodate as many residents as previously projected. It is our intention to provide housing to as many residents as possible, while observing the public health and safety guidance provided by relevant authorities. However, if the University is not able to accommodate all residents with housing contracts on Grounds, the University reserves the right to terminate the housing contracts and will contact affected residents as soon as such decisions are made. In the event that the University is unable to provide housing before move-in, the University will release you from the financial obligations owed to Housing & Residence Life for 2020-2021 housing.

After move-in: After giving notice in as timely a fashion as possible, the University reserves the right to terminate the housing contracts and require residents to leave University housing, if the University is closed or experiencing exigent or emergency circumstances, including public health emergency needs and pandemics such as COVID-19. In the event that the University terminates the housing contracts due to public health concerns, the University will use a standard schedule for calculating refund amounts as specified in the terms and conditions of the housing contract.

University-Initiated Reassignment: At any time with notice, the University reserves its right to reassign a resident temporarily or permanently to alternative University housing deemed appropriate by the University based on the needs of the University. The University also reserves its right to designate currently assigned housing spaces for expanded or decreased occupancy or for other purposes, based on the needs of the University. Such relocation or reassignment does not release you from the financial obligations owed to Housing & Residence Life for 2020-2021 housing.

Removal of Resident Property: In the event of an emergency or other exigent circumstance, including but not limited to closure due to public health emergency and crises, the University and its agents may remove residents’ belongings from University housing (rooms, common areas, buildings) for cleaning, inspection, repair, storage, and/or protection. The University does not assume any obligation or liability for loss or damage to items of personal property that may occur during removal of resident belongings. The University may destroy and discard personal belongings such as perishable items, alcohol, illegal drugs and drug-related paraphernalia, explosives, and hazardous materials. Should the University discover items that raise concern for immediate safety or a significant violation of University policy or law, this matter may be referred to the appropriate authorities.

I also understand that the risk of exposure is elevated for those at higher risk for severe complications from COVID-19, and that living in University housing could increase the risk of contracting any contagious illness simply due to the dense populations in the residence halls.
